Safeguarding policy

Introduction

Tokyo Play Therapy Room(TPTR), as an organisation under the umbrella of Play Therapy UK (PTUK) takes their safeguarding responsibilities seriously at all times. As an organisation supporting children’s mentalhealth and well-being, we make it our priority to act on any behaviour which might put this at risk. TPTR defines a child as any person under the age of 18, as defined by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Safeguarding is defined as :

  • Protecting children from maltreatment
  • Preventing impairment of children’s health and development
  • Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and
  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Child Protection is defined as; 

• The activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering or likely to suffer  significant harm

A child abuse is defined as all forms of physical abuse, emotional ill – treatment, sexual abuse and exploitation, neglector negligent treatment, commercial or other exploitation of a child and included any action that result in actual or potential harm to a child.

Child abuse may be a deliberate act or it may be failing to act to prevent harm. Child abuse consists of anything which individual or institutions, intentionally or unintentionally harms a child or damages their prospect of safe and healthy development into adulthood.

Safeguarding and Child Protection, within the scope of this policy, is defined as the responsibilities, measures and activities that undertakes to safeguard children from both intentional and unintentional harm.

Reporting concerns

TPTR as an organisation has a responsibility to act on any safeguarding concerns reported to us by a member of the public. 

TPTR staff have a duty to report any concerns or suspicions regarding safeguarding breaking to appropriate public authority.

Complaint

TPTR also accepts complaints from the general public, public authorities and other external parties. These complaints should be sent to tokyoplaytherapyroom@icloud.com
